That German swim designer has done it again!  Last year around this time, Maryan Mehlhorn Swimwear won the coveted “Designer of the Year” award at the Swimwear and Lingerie Exhibit in Paris.  But this year, the world-renowned German designer won “Swimwear Brand of the Year 2011” at the UK Lingerie Awards!

The first-ever Awards ceremony, presented by Lingerie Insight magazine, took place on September 7th in London’s Mayfair district.  The glamorous dinner gala was hosted by Millie Clode and Lingerie Insight editor, Kat Slowe.  More than 250 lingerie and swim

Let’s face it—even the most fashion-savvy fashionistas can have some trouble in the fit department.  Bandeau tops are one of the most popular swimsuit top styles around, and believe it or not, many people wear them incorrectly.  We

 recently spoke with the ever-talented Amahlia Stevens of Vitamin A Swimwear and she offered some helpful fit tips.

1. Make Sure Your Top is Right Side Up
It may sound simple enough, but many bandeau tops, including twist bandeaus, look the same whether they’re right side up or upside down.  You can usually figure out which way is the right way by the inside tags.  For example, tags for Vitamin A Swimwear bandeau tops should always be on your left.  By wearing the top the right way, you get the best support and lift.   

2. Tie Your Top Securely
Many bandeau tops tie in back.  To ensure that you get the best support and overall security, you must tie your bandeau tops snugly around back.  If you don’t tie it tight enough, the fabric won’t stretch far enough across the front and it will not fit properly.  Amahlia from Vitamin A Swimwear says that the best way to put on bandeau tops is to tie it very snugly around the natural waist, with the bow or knot in the front, then spin the tie around to the back and pull the bra up over the bust while bending forward.  Just like a strapless bra!

3. It’s All About the Comfort
For both swimsuit tops and bottoms, comfort is key.  If your bandeau tops feel really uncomfortable, chances are you’re either wearing it incorrectly or you need a different size.

THIS JUST IN: L*SPACE Swimwear Made History at the 2010 SIMA Image Awards!  Every year, the Surf Industry Manufacturing Association (SIMA for short) hosts their awards ceremony, and for the first year ever, the SIMA Image Awards were held locally in sunny Orange County, California.  And for the 4th time in a row, the world-renowned designer brand won the award for Women’s Swim Brand of the Year—the first ever 4-time consecutive win in all of SIMA history!

L*SPACE Swimwear was recognized for having the most exciting swimsuit designs, significant business growth, and best brand appeal in the business.  Creator and designer Monica Wise said, “We couldn’t have done it without the amazing people who make up the entire L*SPACE team and the retailers who support us.  We owe it all to them.”

As always, Monica Wise was humble as could be!  The coveted designer swimwear brand has already proved that it’s a favorite amongst celebrities and fashionistas across the globe, but now the company is extending its dominance and taking over the surf industry as well!  A big congrats goes out to Monica Wise and the entire L*SPACE Swimwear team!

At this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC, Starwood’s design-driven W Hotel chain, took fashion to the centerstage.  The luxury hotel chain threw its first-ever fashion show for its new and exclusive label called “Global Glam.”  Global Glam will be featured in three of the new W resort hotels in London, Vieques, Puerto Rico, and St. Petersburg, Russia. One designer that was featured in the W Hotel Global Glam collection was Melissa Odabash.

The Melissa Odabash swimwear was featured with an amazing teeny, weenie yellow bikini.  Also a tan Melissa Odabash caftan, with pink designs on the sleeves and front was featured at the showing in the Global Glam collection.

Melissa Odabash thought this was a very chic way to feature her designs.  It is an honor for the swimwear line to be featured at the Hotel W, which is created with the celeb-filled, champagne-pouring VIP lounge feel behind it.

Odabash was quoted in USA Today saying, “Everyone forgets something when they travel. My best clients are hotel guests. Their husbands don’t see the girls shop, and they put it on the room bill. They’re also less apt to return items because they’re gone within days.”

But not only has the W Hotel chain supported Melissa Odabash Swimwear by featuring it in the Global Glam line, but they are also hosting the designer’s trunk shows.  The Odabash swimwear show was recently featured at the W Hotel in South Beach.  So not only are they attracting high end travelers but also fashionista’s everywhere.

Designer Maryan Mehlhorn

German swimwear designer Maryan Mehlhorn was awarded on September 4, 2010 the Designer of the Year prize.  This prestigious honor was presented to Mehlhorn by CEO Marie-Laure Bellon-Homps at the swimwear and lingerie exhibit in Mode City in Paris.  More than 70 journalists from all over the world were there to record and recount this amazing day for an extraordinary designer.

At the event Mehlhorn launched her Rainforest Project.  The Rainforest Project is partnered with World Land Trust, and its goal is to protect the rainforest from further deforestation.  The following evening Maryan Mehlhorn swimwear showcased the Lidea collection of animal print swimsuits for support of the project. 

One swimsuit that was surely featured was the Lidea Dunes Bikini.  This leopard print bikini has great underwire support with a padded top and adjustable shoulder straps.  The matching bottoms have small side rings for a sexy but full coverage very feminine look.

German designer brand, Maryan Mehlhorn Swimwear, recently announced the launch of its Rainforest Project.  In partnership with the World Land Trust, Maryan Mehlhorn has teamed up with Sensitive Fabrics to reach a common goal—to help protect the rainforest and prevent further deforestation.

The World Land Trust is an international conservation organization that works to save rainforests and other wildlife habitats.  The Atlantic Forest, located in Brazil, Paraguay, and the Misiones Province of Argentina, is the rainforest targeted by the Maryan Mehlhorn Rainforest Project.  As the most diverse eco-region in Argentina, the Atlantic Forest is home to 116 mammal species, 548 bird species, 124 amphibian species, and 222 fish species.  Due to heavy deforestation, The Atlantic Forest has been reduced to from 25.700 square km to 16,000 square km.
